The world population is 7 Billion now and it’s increasing day by day. According to the estimation of the United Nation, the world population can increase up to 11 billion by 2100. In that time the basic electricity technologies will not be sufficient to full fill the needs of power.

Many new technologies are emerging, which can be prove to efficient and change the future of power in the next few decades.  But there is a lot more search is required before implementation.

Let’s talk about future technologies which will design to fulfill future electricity requirements.

1.    Solar – with new advancement

The solar panels may be the old concepts now. It is evolving to new advanced features where it will take a new shape.

The new shape of solar panels is Voltic glass which has the properties of window glass. And with that, it can also generate electricity without change the house architecture.

Solar panels collect photons particles and used them to generate electricity. But Voltic glass will use salt which absorbs nonvisible light wavelength energy and transfer it to the edge of the panel where solar panels are embedded.

The building which uses glass on the windows can reduce the cost of average glass and produce electricity. These will be sustainable, enhance branding and public relations.

And the environments were too much heating passing through the windows causing a temperature rise. This Voltic glass will absorb the energy and allow less heat to pass. This way it can reduce the cooling cost. Voltic panels are also designed for the environment where light is needed, which allows green light to penetrates.

2.    Betavoltaics – don’t waste nuclear waste

Nuclear elements are in the continuous process of decaying and they emit radiation during this process. And all these radiations are wasting on daily basis, then why not to use these radiations to full our needs of electricity.

Many devices are coming to the market on daily basis with different technologies but they have one common factor which is electricity. All these devices need the power to operate.

The Betavoltaics devices are introduced to absorb the energy of decaying elements. It will capture the electors of radiation and generate electricity. We all know radioactive elements take hundreds of years for their full decay. This way we can get electricity from safe, reliable and also for a long period.

For example, one Betavoltaics cell can generate 1-volt electricity continuously for 30 years.

A large amount of radiation cannot be handled at this time. But we can use a small amount of radiation to give power to the small sensors which need to works for years. And also, other small devices can use Betavoltaics cells to get a stable and consistent power source.

3.    Microbial fuel cells – usage of bacterial activity for electricity

There are millions of bacteria around us, some are good and others are harmful to living things but they all breathe. And when bacterial breath an oxidation process occurs. When oxygen reacts with other chemicals it releases electrons as a by-product.

If we connect these breathing bacteria with electrodes and anode then we can collect the electrons to generate electricity. This process is known as Microbial fuel cell. These are extensivity use to produce power from wastewater. But companies are extending their research to expand the usage of Microbial fuel cells such as powering miniature aquatic robots.

Microbial fuel cells are an eco-friendly source of generating power without causing harm to the environment. It can be applied to the area where electricity is not reachable. You can also recover valuable components from substrates.  

More study is needed to make it available for everyone because implantation of Microbial fuel cells at a large scale can be very costly.

4.    Tidal power – save the change

There are thousands of waves include big and small ones travel in the sea. We can use the tidal waves to generate electricity. This technology can play a vital role in electricity production and can be a long-term source of power.

May devices such as buoys or pitching devices, underwater turbines, offshore floats, and oscillating water column (OWC) devices are developed to collect the sea tides and waves energy to convert to electricity.

The underwater turbines work efficiently to generate power as compared to the other devices in power generation. The first commercial-scale turbine was installed in Northern Ireland’s Strangford Lough in July 2008.

There are many benefits of Tidal power. Such as it is environment-friendly source of power, highly predictable source of energy source, operational & maintenance cost is low, it produces a large amount of electricity and inexhaustible source of energy.

But construction such big project which can bear the high sea tides can be costly and it can also affect marine life.

5.    Floating wind turbine – collect electricity through the wind energy

The Floating wind turbine can be installed at the offshores where wind speed is high. And can also be in the dipper level of the sea where winds are stronger than the offshores.

Like offshores wind turbine which required concrete base to stand. The floating turbines are based on gas and floating oil and connect it to the seabed with few cables in the depth of 700 meters. Deeper water required less obtrusive installations.

Wind turbines can generate a magnificent amount of energy but also required large costs to implement. The cost of a site survey is €15 million. Tts installation and construction costs are about €650 million. The ongoing maintenance and operational cost is roughly €75 million. And at the end of its life, which is about 25 years, the decommissioning cost is up to €300 million.

All though more research is required to reduce the construction cost and get more energy out of it.

Conclusion

The energy production sources change from the last century where the coil was used to generate electricity. And now in the 20th century, the source of energy is completely changed. Then we can accept the more advanced source of energy in the next century.
